Unionized workers at eight Twin Cities hospitals have voted to authorize a strike.
The Pioneer Press reports that 91 percent of 3,500 members of the Service Employees International Union Healthcare Minnesota union voted in favor of a two- to-five-day strike.
The workers include nursing assistants, emergency room technicians, maintenance workers and food service personnel, but not physicians or registered nurses.

The unions would have to give the hospitals 10-day notice of a strike.
The union members are unhappy about work changes the hospitals are seeking in negotiations that are to start this week.
